Asobo Studio was founded in an apartment in 2002 by 12 development enthusiasts with a shared ambition to create unique, high-quality immersive gaming experiences for the gaming community, based on strong technological innovations.
Two decades later, still guided by the same entrepreneurial spirit and supported by a team of more than 250 talents, the adventure continues. A powerful, agile driving force backed by the biggest names in the industry (Microsoft, Ubisoft, Disney/Pixar, Focus Home Interactive), the company has developed 24 games and sold nearly 11 million copies worldwide. The latest instalment of Flight Simulator for PC, marking the revival of the legendary franchise, was released in 2020 to critical acclaim and has proven extremely popular among more than two million gamers. It was followed by the first-ever console version in the series’ history in July 2021, ranked the highest rated Xbox Series X|S game of 2021 with a Metacritic score of 92%.
Having grown the studio into the leading independent French developer (nine Pegasus awards in 2020 and 2021, including Best Video Game and Best Game-as-a-Service), in 2020 the 12 co-founders decided to accelerate its development and bring some of the team into the company’s capital.
With that in mind, the Asobo team met with Sagard NewGen in 2020.
At a time when many studios are being bought out by the big names in the industry, the Asobo team has chosen to remain independent, placing its trust in Sagard NewGen to support the company in the next stage of its growth.
Shared values and ambitions sealed the partnership in January 2021.
